Summer Moments

I know that here in the south we have another month or so of pretty warm weather until we get to those really cool fall days. But with the end of August approaching and Alyssa being back in school, the summer is basically over for me.

Our summer was full of birthday parties (three!), sleepovers without any sleep and lots of coffee for mom. We had some pool days, a couple of yard sales and several cookouts. We tried (and failed) to keep the house clean and ended July with a trip to White Water in Atlanta. I'd call it a success. Here are some favorite moments.

Andy Goes Skydiving

It's about 9 o'clock in the morning, the kids and I have had breakfast and coffee (just me) and it's about 65 degrees outside. The only thing on my mind so far this week is how fall is almost here and what all I need to buy to decorate for it. I'm simultaneously writing this post and searching for fall themed printables on Google, but the options are slim so far. Then I remembered that I never posted anything about Andy's super exciting adventure last month; he went skydiving!

Last year for his birthday I gave him a gift certificate to go skydiving. He is an absolute adrenaline junky and had never been before. I'm all about supporting his thrill seeking habit and we make a point of our relationship being about having adventures together, especially doing things and going places with each other that neither one of us have been to or done before.

Fast forward a year later and Andy finally has the time and a jumping buddy who isn't me. Yeah, I'm not that big on the thrill seeking. We went zip lining a couple of months ago and that was terrifying enough for me.

 The plane.

Andy's best friend jumping.

They call him "Muscles".

So we scheduled a jump appointment and drove about 45 minutes to a small airport one state over. They had to sign some papers in case things didn't end well, watch a video and then get suited up by a diving instructor. Andy and his friend went up on two different flights so they didn't really get to jump "together" but they both still had an amazing time and it was basically the best thing either one had ever done. You can watch Andy's video on YouTube and see that he was slightly terrified until his parachute opened. Not that I blame him. Now he's ready to go back a few more times and get certified to jump by himself.

Andy right before he got on the plane.

Taking off.

That tiny little speck is Andy, about 12,000 feet in the air.

Safe and sound.

Blair is One!

Well, it's official, Blair turned one year old yesterday. Big sister Alyssa is already back in school and daddy is working long hours in another city this week. So that left me, Emily and Blair on our own to do something fun. The first stop of our morning was a little for the girls and a lot for mom. We hit up the Starbucks closest to our house and had breakfast on the patio. I ordered the girls a blueberry muffin and a chocolate chip scone and they split both. After the first few bites, Blair started throwing her food on the ground and Emily became more interested in my bagel and "ice cream".

As fun and "relaxing" as breakfast was, we decided to take our drinks to go and head to the park. There is a newish one not far from our house that has a mini splash pad and springy cork board floors. I though it would be perfect for Blair to crawl around and play. The first thing we did at the park was take a few one year old pictures. That was interesting for about 45 seconds. We attempted to play in the water, except the water wouldn't come on. Bummer. We played on the swings and slides for a while but then the sun came out and it got really hot really quickly. Between the heat and the park ranger who had been sitting parked behind my car for an uncomfortable amount of time, I thought it would be best to head home for an early nap.

We spent the rest of the day playing and eating junk food and waiting for daddy to come home and spend a few minutes with us before bed time. Blair's party is this Saturday and we can't wait to really celebrate our sweet girl.
